My Mama Says There Aren't Any Zombies, Ghosts, Vampires, Creatures, Demons, Monsters, Fiends, Goblins, or Things

Little Boy has a strange fascination with this story. Could be the zombies, ghosts, vampires, creatures, demons, monsters, fiends, goblins, and things.

Then again, I could be wrong.

This story is narrated by a little boy who is sure that there are zombies (etc.) creeping around his bedroom. His mama tells him that there aren't zombies (and so forth), but the boy points out times when his mama has been wrong before--implying that maybe there are zombies (& co.). In the end, though, he concedes that mama is usually right.

The story isn't really scary, despite the zombies (yada, yada, yada), but some of the illustrations are a little creepy. So consider that before reading it to your child--Little Boy didn't seem to mind, but I know some kids who are a little wary of monsters.

Written by Judith Viorst, illustrated by Kay Chorao
Age range*: 4-6
My rating: 3 stars [out of five]

*Age ranges are very flexible.

Full disclosure: I don't receive any compensation for reviewing children's books--the books are usually just checked out from the local library.
