My mom read the Hairy Maclary books to me when I was little. They have a lot of nostalgic value for me. But they're pretty popular books, so hopefully I'm not just going off my childhood feelings here.
So yeah, I love Hairy Maclary (I haven't read all the books in the series, but I've read a few--and I've liked every single one). He's adorable. And these books are good for read-alouds--they have rhyming text and a nice rhythm.
My local library has only three or four Hairy Maclary books, and I think they have only a couple of other books by the same author. That's really a shame, because these books are so fun. I guess we'll have to collect a few from Amazon.
This particular book is the first one in the series. It's super simple--Hairy Maclary walks around town, picking up his friends one at a time. Each page repeats his friends as they're added to the group. My personal favorite of his friends is "Schnitzel von Krumm, with the very low tum." But that's just me. After the friends are all together, well...they have a little trouble. But not much--it's a cute little story.
My youngest daughter loves dogs and any and all books about them, but I've never seen these. Gonna see if my library has them. Thanks!
